How dorky am I? Very dorky:

ADDENDUM 2009-12-02 08:54:27 -0800: If any of you – uh – need one or two of these versions to fall off a truck and land weirdly close to your front porch, just say the word.

I do kinda love the fact that the vocals on the Still version are largely inaudible but this is aces too. And weirdly close to my front porch is just about the right distance.

I have seen the video from the seventies when Costello pulled a similar trick with the Attractions but this is pretty ace too. It does lack the look of “punk” that Costello give the camera in the 1977 performance though.

I’m a pretty huge quote/passage nerd and I definitely need this printed and hung up on my wall. It’s been a few months since I quit and yea I do miss having a steady paycheck and not stressing out about paying next month’s rent (or the current month), but I mean ultimately you just have to do it if you’re really committed to your craft be it writing/design/filmmaking/acting/whatever creative venture you see yourself a part of.

That is unless you DO work for an awesome creative agency or collective/guild/union and have nothing to worry about except poking fun at the less fortunate and maintaining your creative baller status.

In which case I hate you and I hope to be in your position (real) soon.

You’ve used words like “totally” and “nearly” as intensifiers in your lifetime, right? I’m betting you have, and I’m betting you’re OK with that, because they’re not as ridiculous as “literally.” But why?

I think one of the reasons is that “literally” is a word that has a clear and obvious meaning, and a useful function in the English language. Sometimes, you actually mean literally, and if everybody starts using “literally” as pure hyperbole, it becomes unclear what you mean if you use it to actually mean “in a literal sense or manner”.

Besides, it’s just hilarious if people say things like “he literally turned the world upside down.” They ~~literally~~ invite ridicule!

At any rate, this war is over. Dictionaries are now listing non-literal definitions along the lines of “without exaggeration” (which itself doesn’t really mean “without exaggeration”), and they note that it can be used as a generic intensifier.
